Royal Profile: HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands

Prince Constantijn Christof Frederik Aschwin of The Netherlands was born 11 October 1969, the third and youngest son of Queen Beatrix and the late Prince Claus of the Netherlands. His godparents were King Constantine II of Greece, Prince Aschwin zu Lippe-Biesterfeld, Axel Freiherr von dem Bussche-Streithorst, Max Kohnstamm, and Mrs. Corinne de Beaufort-Sickinghe. He has two older brothers, Prince Williem-Alexander and Prince Friso. 

Presently, he is 5th in line for the Dutch throne after his eldest brother, and three nieces. Prince Friso lost his rights to succession upon his marriage to Princess Mabel.

He studied law at Leiden University, and became a lawyer. He worked in Belgium, for the department of Dutch European Union Commissioner of Foreign Relations. After that, he was hired by the EU where he worked in various capacities until December 1999. In December 2000, he obtained a MBA from INSEAD in France. He spent that summer wroking for  International Finance Corporation of the World Bank group in Washington, D.C.. He worked until late 2002 for strategic consultants Booz Allen Hamilton in London. Since 2003 he works for the RAND Corporation Europe in Brussels. Furthermore, he has a part-time position at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

Unlike his older brother, he rarely makes appearances on The Netherlands behalf. He is an avid sportsman, who enjoys Football, tennis, golf and skiing. He also dabbles a bit in the arts, enjoying drawing, cooking and reading.

He married Laurentien Brinkhorst civil on 17 May 2001, and relgiously on 19 May 2001. Together they have three children, two daughters and a son:

  • Countess Eloise Beatrix Sophie Laurence, Jonkvrouwe van Amsberg who was born 8 June 2002 in Bronovo Hospital in The Hague, and is presently 6th in line for the throne after her father.
  • Count Claus-Casimir Bernhard Marius Max, Jonkheer van Amsberg  who was born 21 March 2004 at Bronovo Hospital in The Hague and is 7th in line for the throne after his sister.
  • Countess Leonore Marie Irene Enrica, Jonkvrouwe van Amsberg  who was born  3 June 2006 at Bronovo hospital in The Hague and is 8th in line fht the throne after her brother.

Prince Constantin Foulques Alexandre d'Orléans was born 15 February 2003 as the fourth child and youngest son of Prince Charles Louis, Duke of Chartres & Iléana Manos{ Source }. Princess Beatrix Wilhelmina Armgard of The Netherlands was born at Soestdijk Palace in Baarn on 31 January 1938 as the first child of Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard{ Source }.
