King Carl XVI Gustaf & Queen Silvia visit the USA
Day 1 (May 8)
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia were joined by Princess Madeline and Mr. Christopher O'Neil for a
guided tour of the Castle Clinton national monument {Source}. After that, they took a boat to Ellis Island and then another boat to Liberty Island and the Statue of Liberty {Source}.
Afterward, the pair of royal couples were spotted having lunch at the Red Rooster restaurant in Harlem{Source}
After lunch, the King & Queen said good-bye to their youngest daughter and future son-in-law, boarding a flight for Washington, DC {Source}.
That evening, Sweden's King & Queen attended a dinner at the Swedish Residence that was hosted by the Swedish Ambassador to the US {Source}.
Day 2 (May 9)
The King and Queen's day began with a memorial ceremony for Raoul Wallenberg at the Treasury before attending a meeting with the US Secretary of the Treasury {Source}, and they also took part in a seminar on the Arctic at The House of Sweden {Source}. Afterward, the royal couple headed to visit the Library of Congress {Source}, visited the US Capitol{Source}, and met with Speaker of the House John Boehner {Source}. For lunch, they attended a luncheon hosted by Senator Johnny Isakson and Congressman Randall M. Hultgren. Hutlgren is Chairman of the Swedish Caucus{Source}.
Day 3 (May 10)
The third day of their US tour was a busy one! They began their day in Washington, DC, where they visited the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, where they were received by the US Secretary of Defense{Source}
In the afternoon, it was off to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania{Source}. Upon their arrival in Philidelphia, they met with the city's mayor, who gave them a guided tour of his city {Source}. They also visited Philadelphia City Hall, Independence Hall and the American Swedish Historical Museum {Source}. The final activity of their day was a visit to the Barnes Foundation {Source}.
Day 4 (May 11)
Their final day in the US was another busy one, which they were joined by the Speaker of the Parliament of Finland and his wife {Source}.
In the morning, the group attended a seminar at the Independence Seaport Museum {Source}. Afterward, they paid a visit to the Finnish Monument in Chester {Source}. They attended a luncheon at the Buena Vista Plantation that was hosted by the Governor of Deleware {Source}, where once again, King Carl XVI Gustaf gave another speech. After lunch, the Royal duo attended a Wilmington, Delaware celebration{Source}, and then sailed on a replica of the Kalmar Nyckel to Fort Christina {Source}. While at Fort Christina, they took part in a ceremony at the Delaware Monument in Fort Christina Park {Source}. Following the visit to Fort Christina, they were off to visit the Old Swedes Church to attend a service {Source}.
