Royal Profile: James Ogilvy

James Robert Bruce Ogilvy is the elder of two children of Princess Alexandra of Kent, The Hon. Lady Ogilvy and Sir Angus Ogilvy and he was born on 29 February 1964 {Source}. He has a younger sister, and a niece and nephew{Source}:

He was the first of four royal babies born in 1964-the others being{Source}:
  • The Prince Edward (10 March) (2nd cousin through his mother)
  • The Lady Helen Windsor (28 April)(1st cousin, her father is the present Duke of Kent)
  • The Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones (1 May)(second cousin through his mother)

At his birth, he was 13th in line for the throne, as of May 2015 and the birth of Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, he is 48th {Source}.

He was baptized, and one of his seven godparents was Queen Elizabeth II {Source}. He himself became a godfather in 1990, to Princess Eugenie of York {Source} {Source}

He, like his younger second cousins 1x removed (Prince William, and Prince Harry), attended Eton College{Source}. He also attended the University of St. Andrews{Source}. His daughter, Flora would later follow in his footsteps by also attending St. Andrews {Source}

In 1996, he launched a new magazine called Luxury Briefing. However, in 2010, he resigned from his position as publisher and sold the magazine to the Luxury Business Group{Source}

He married Julia Caroline Rawlinson on 30 July 1988 and they have two children{Source}:

  • Flora Alexandra Ogilvy (1994)
  • Alexander Charles Ogilvy (1996)
Unlike his mother, he does not hold any royal titles or undertake any formal duties on behalf of the Crown. However, like most of the extended family, he was invited to family events such as the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall. He also attended The Cambridge Wedding in April 2011.
